Who these tools help
Four jobs. The right tool for each.
Each tool targets one measurement. Type speed, passage length, reading time, KPH — one input, one answer.
Exam aspirants
Government exams score typing speed in KDPH and set passage lengths in characters. Practice platforms show WPM. These tools give you the numbers the exam uses, before you sit it.
Writers and students
Academic submissions, grant proposals, and editorial pitches specify word count ranges. Get the exact number from plain-text input — no formatting quirks from Word or Google Docs.
Content and SEO professionals
Platform character limits are hard cutoffs. Meta titles, meta descriptions, social captions — check your copy against the exact limit before publishing.
Speakers and presenters
A script that runs long wastes rehearsal time. Check word count and speaking time estimate before you step into the room.

KDPH stands for Key Depressions Per Hour — the total number of individual key presses in one hour. SSC, Railway, and Banking exams use KDPH as the official speed unit. WPM (words per minute) is the international standard. One word is counted as 5 characters, so 35 WPM equals 10,500 KDPH.
SSC CHSL, SSC CGL DEO, Railway RRB NTPC, LIC AAO, and most State PSC typing tests specify cutoffs in KDPH. Most typing practice platforms display only WPM. Convert before your exam so you know where you stand.
Reading time divides the word count by 200 WPM, the adult average for plain English prose. Speaking time uses 130 WPM. Both are estimates — technical or legal text reads at 100–150 WPM.
SSC CHSL passages run 1,800–2,500 characters without spaces for a 10-minute test. SSC CGL DEO passages run 3,000–4,200 characters. Railway NTPC passages are similar to SSC CHSL. Checking your practice text against these ranges tells you whether your speed estimate is inflated or accurate.
